Traditional Navajo Processing and Spinning on a Lap Spindle PhotIn the morning students will learn the very basics of processing wool utilizing the Navajo traditional techniques, using what is on hand, waterless processing, and using only natural ingredients for processing wool. In the afternoon we will learn to pick/card wool and spin the cleaned wool on a traditional Lap Spindle, traditional creation stories will be told about how he Navajo’s acquired the Lap Spindle and other family stories will be shared.

Student Materials List: Students may bring their own hand cards to card medium/course wool, a traditional Navajo Lap Spindle and/or some carders/spindles will be available for purchasing, prices will vary from $12.00 to $26.00 depending on the wood used and whorl style.

Please bring $25.00 for instructional handouts, raw Navajo-Churro wool for washing with yucca soap and other natural ingredients for processing wool the Navajo traditional way.
