Rugmaking PhotoIn this class we will discuss and explore the various ways of making rugs. Rug making can seem intimidating because rugs are typically big, but actually they are easy to produce by using very simple techniques: Plain knitting, single crochet, a basic tabby weave, braiding, and using a rug punch. The end result is a beautiful and practical item for home use that is usually inexpensive to make.

We will discuss the various ways to make rugs, explore design criteria, and experiment with different materials. We will also discuss the use of the guild's new Cranbrook loom, which was designed to produce rugs. Students should bring any large knitting needles that they might have (size 13 through 17) and large gauge crochet hooks. Materials will be provided with which to experiment, but students are encouraged to bring items such as left over fabric, old sweaters, and heavy yarn from completed projects. Students will leave with an idea booklet to get them started on their own projects.

Student Materials List: Knitting needles (size 13 through 17) and large gauge crochet hooks, left over fabric, old sweaters, and heavy yarn from completed projects.

Please bring $7.00 for supplies that will be provided for you.

PLEASE NOTE: THE RUG MAKING CLASS IS AT THE GUILD STUDIO!
