"My
weaving interests were the direct result of my interest in
Navajo-Churro Sheep. We purchased our first Churros in 2000.
They presented us with wonderful lambs in March of 2001. They
were such lovely colors! My husband, Steve, and I joined
Navajo-Churro Sheep Association and we attended their annual meeting
in 2001 at the Taos Wool Festival. A friend we met there advised me,
"If you want or intend to sell wool, you really need to
learn to spin. Even if you never do anything with the yarn, you
will be better able to "talk the talk" and know what wool
enthusiasts like." I took his advice! I saw a demo of
Navajo Weaving at a BLM visitor’s center near Cortez. That
demonstration fired me up and that passion has not been quenched. "I
am a largely self taught weaver using books and learning by
trial and error. I have taken workshops in Arizona by
TahNibaa Naataani, and most recently a cinch weaving workshop by Jay
Begay in Farmington. I am still learning but then that process should
never end!"
Bonnie
is teaching Navajo Style Weaving, an all day class, on Sunday beginning at 9am.
