Japanese
have long used shaping and securing cloth before dyeing to create
intricate and beautiful patterns. Four traditional methods are taught
in this class: stitching, pole wrapping, clamping and knotting.
Participants will receive three silk scarves with which to explore
these systems. Procion fiber-reactive dyes are provided, they are
non-toxic and require no cooking. It is fun, experimental, creative
and – not surprisingly – no two results are alike.
